First Birthday Party

It is a tradition these days to have a large party on a child's first birthday, and many people rent out a space as might be found in a wedding hall, complete with a buffet meal, an MC, professional photographers, etc.

Here's a pic of the cake ceremony (which came after the video history):

Small Restaurant Sign

This chicken + beer place (The Frypan) is a chain, but this was the first place I saw this slogan (made me laugh):

Soup for Lunch

"Gamjatang" (감자탕) is a spicy pork bone soup with vegetables, simple but delicious.  Along with kimchi and rice, it makes for a filling meal:

Strange Pizza

This is a rucola pizza . . . I was a bit stupefied about how to eat it . .  I wound up just using my fingertips:

Songtan

Close to the American air base, this pedestrian area is full of places that offer touristy items and fast foods (McD's, Popeyes, etc):

Turkish Restaurant

This small Turkish kebab restaurant is in Songtan and caters largely to American military personnel as there is an air base in the town.  The downstairs is mostly for cooking (it gets a bit hot).

Street Festival

There was a street festival of sorts today; the theme seemed to be 'healthy food'.  The central pedestrian area was quite busy, and it was a nice day for it, not hot at all.

Kids playing in a water fountain that alternatively shoots up-and-down.

You can take a turn at pounding some rice into a gooey substance that is then used to make rice cakes/sweets.  I passed; too much work.

Seaweed for sale.

Grilled octopus tentacles; probably quite chewy!
